Art Submission Guidelines

General Info
Submission deadline: Contest deadline has been extended to July 1.

Submit all entries to: blackbeetle\at\defcon dot org

Categories:

  • banners
  • keycard
  • logos
  • poster
  • T-shirt
  • wallpaper

Prizes: Winners of each category will receive a special Defcon 12 Prize Pack. Winners will be contacted individually and be announced on the website and recognized in the Defcon 12 printed program.

  • There may be multiple winners per category.
  • We reserve the right to not select a winner for every category

Please read the requirements for each category carefully.

Defcon 12 Banners
Requirements:
  • Banners may be made any size you desire, but the most common is 468 x 60 pixels. Please set the resolution to be 600dpi (for .jpg or .psd).
  • Banners must incorporate the following text:
    Defcon 12/0C/2004/twelve; and the date of the show.

Accepted file formats: jpg, gif, psd, eps

Name your entries in the following format to help us add them on-line faster: dc-12-[your-handle]-[#].[jpg/gif/psd/eps] where [your-handle] is your handle in lowercase with spaces replaced with dashes. [#] is replaced by a number representing the current logo you are submitting. [jpg/gif/psd/eps] is either a jpeg, a gif, unflattened photoshop file, or illustrator eps the four file formats accepted.

For example, Net Ninja is submitting three jpeg logos. He would name the first one dc-12-net-ninja-1.jpg and the last one dc-12-net-ninja-3.jpg.

Send files individually (if it is a single submission) or archived (.zip or .sit) if there are multiples.

Banner submissions will be added on-line to the DEFCON web site, and cool banners may be included in the con program.

Requirements:
  • Art must be built to the following size: 1.975" x 3.75" (either orientation is fine). Make sure all type is set at least 0.25 inches from each edge.
  • Art for logos will only be accepted if they are submitted in the following formats:
    • VECTOR EPS file, with type converted to outlines. OR
    • Photoshop .psd file, at 300 dpi or greater the the specified physical size.
  • Logos must incorporate the following text:
    Defcon 12/0C/2004/twelve.

PDF, Word, .TIF, .GIF, .JPG and any other files submitted in formats other than what is specified above WILL NOT be accepted for entry to the logo contest. Artwork will be placed in the banners section instead.

Name your entries in the following format to help us add them on-line faster: dc-12-[your-handle]-[#].[eps] where [your-handle] is your handle in lowercase with spaces replaced with dashes. [#] is replaced by a number representing the current logo you are submitting. Vector eps and Photoshop psd files are the only file formats accepted.

For example, Net Ninja is submitting three eps key card pieces. He would name the first one dc-12-net-ninja-1.eps and the last one dc-12-net-ninja-3.eps.

Send files individually (if it is a single submission) or archived (.zip or .sit) if there are multiples.

Key card submissions will be added on-line to the DEFCON web site, and cool key card art may be included in the con program.

Defcon 12 logos
Requirements:
  • Art for logos will only be accepted if they are submitted in the following format: VECTOR EPS file, with type converted to outlines.
  • Logos must incorporate the following text:
    Defcon 12/0C/2004/twelve.

Photoshop, PDF, Word, .TIF, .GIF, .JPG and any other files submitted in formats other than what is specified above WILL NOT be accepted for entry to the logo contest. Artwork will be placed in the banners section instead.

Defcon 12 posters
Requirements:
  • Posters must measure 24"w x 36"h, 72 dpi or higher.
  • Posters must incorporate the track/event name and the following text:
    Defcon 12/0C/2004/twelve.
  • Avoid all black or dark backgrounds- these never reproduce well.
  • Events/track posters that we are looking for are:
    1. Chill Out - DJ Action
    2. Black & White Ball
    3. Track 1
    4. Track 2
    5. Track 3
    6. Track 4
    7. Capture the Flag
    8. Twelve Hundred Second Spotlight
    9. Swag Booth
    10. Info Booth

Send files individually (if it is a single submission) or archived (.zip or .sit) if there are multiples.

Poster submissions will be added on-line to the DEFCON web site, and cool poster art may be included in the con program. Winning submissions will be used for actual signs during the contest. Winners will receive 2 copies of their posters (unmounted), the DC12 Prize Pack and recognition in the con program and website.

T-shirt art
Requirements:
  • Art for T-shirts will only be accepted if they are submitted in the following format: VECTOR EPS file, with type converted to outlines.
  • Art must incorporate the following text:
    Defcon 12/0C/2004/twelve.

Photoshop, PDF, Word, .TIF, .GIF, .JPG and any other files submitted in formats other than what is specified above WILL NOT be accepted for entry to the T-shirt contest. Artwork will be placed in the banners or wallpapers section instead.

Name your entries in the following format to help us add them on-line faster: dc-12-[your-handle]-[#].[eps] where [your-handle] is your handle in lowercase with spaces replaced with dashes. [#] is replaced by a number representing the current logo you are submitting. Vector eps is the ONLY file format accepted.

Defcon 12 Wallpaper
Requirements:
  • Create your desktop wallpaper at 1152 x 864, 72dpi
  • Art must incorporate the following text:
    Defcon 12/0C/2004/twelve.

Accepted file formats: jpg and psd

Wallpaper submissions will be added on-line to the DEF CON web site, and cool wallpapers may be printed in the con program.
