Submissions Now Open for 'From Dusk Til Con'
For those that attended the "Pub Crawl" at DEF CON 21 you know what a huge success it was. The feedback we received was that people would like to see it again but see more variety than just Party #1, Party #2, Party #3, so we're listening. Call it a call for content, call for parties, call for meet ups, whatever you want, but we've got space and the night is yours. Welcome to 'From Dusk Til Con'.
Just like last year we'll provide bars strategically placed throughout the hall, but we're looking for you to come up with ideas to fill the rooms. This is the chance for you or your group to show what you've got and have a place to call your own, even if it's just for one night.
If you want to bring in some speakers and blow the roof off, great! If you want to have a meet up of folks that want to play table games, great! If you want to try out an idea for a village before you try to take it prime time next year, great! Impromtu sumo tournament…ummm…great!
So start submitting your ideas and we'll pick the best ones and assign you a room, or two, for use for the night. Lets see what you've got.
In order to submit you need to cut and paste the following into email or text file and email it to grifter at defcon dot org
DROP YOUR DOX:
Who are you?
What's a good phone number to reach you at?
Where can we email you?
List three references that would be a character reference for you in court:
Answer the following in as much detail as you can.
What's your event name going to be?
Why do you want to have an event?
What kind of event do you want to throw?
How are you involved in the hacker community?
Why should we pick your event over others?
What music or entertainment do you want to have?
What kind of decor will you set the room up in?
(You'll need to work with the hotel rules: You can't attach anything to the walls, ceiling, or doors. Decor and other items need to be free standing and you may be required to show that items are fire or flame retardant)
Do you have any plans for giveaways, swag, or cool freebies?
What are your plans for event regulation?
Tell us anything else about yourself that you think we should know in considering your event application.
If we accept your event we will contact you for more information, provide you with a contract, inform you of the event terms of conduct, and let you know the room size and set up. At that time you'd be required to submit a $200 deposit on your event, to be returned to you provided you show up, host the event, and the room is not destroyed beyond recognition. It would suck to accept your event only to have you not show up so don't do that.
